A very common question I get asked daily is the file size requirements for certain types of digital products and while you would think it’s a very straightforward and singular answer, the reality is, it’s just not. 🙂

Selling digital files on Etsy is so fun and rewarding and easy to do once you get the hang of it, but I do remember when I first started out and how many times and ways I had to search for different types of digital files and their common sizes.

This is why I so strongly believe in understanding your audience/niche and what they are actually using the files for so that you have the best understanding when it comes to actually making a file they want to purchase (and ultimately come back to purchase again and again, which is the whole idea).

So let’s dive into some of the most common types of digital files sold on Etsy and I have a special gift for you waiting at the bottom of the page! 

1. Digital Wall Art

One of the MOST popular digital products to sell on Etsy is digital wall art and this one requires some of the most formatting because it comes usually in so many different sizes and formats (PDFs, JPGs, & PNGs). Below is an image of all the sizes and ratios involved with creating and selling wall art!

2. Digital Papers

Another huge seller on Etsy are digital papers. These are seamless pattern papers that crafters use for a wide variety of craft projects like junk journaling, scrapbooking, tumbler making and much more!

These are usually created at 12x12 inches and are seamless, meaning the papers could be stacked on top of each other or side by side to create a never-ending pattern. These are always PNGs or JPGs.

3. Graphic T-Shirt Designs

T-Shirt designs are also hugely popular because they are used by crafters and small business owners who make their own apparel and POD (print-on-demand) sellers so they have a large audience of buyers on Etsy.

We’ve previously only talked about the dimensions of the other products in inches, but for this one you’ll use pixels and you’ll want to create t-shirt graphic designs at 4500x5400px. 

This is the most common size for both crafters and POD buyers and equals out to around 12x15in depending on how large the design is. Below is a recent one I created:

All of this can be overwhelming in the beginning whether you create wall art files or designs for sublimation products like I do (tumbler wraps, mugs, t-shirts, wind spinners, etc.) because there are tons of different sizes for tons of different products.
